Intake 42 of the Southern Campus of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University hosted its very first talent show, Kodukara ’42—an evening filled with colour, rhythm, and celebration.
The event, held at the KDU Southern Campus auditorium on 01 April 2025, was graced by the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV USP psc MMaritimePol BSc (DS) as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by the Rector of KDU Southern Campus, Brigadier HMGE Herath RSP USP ndu psc, the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences, Dr. AH Lakmal, the Senior Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Commander(N) KMDOS Kodikara USP psc along with Officers from the Tri-Services, academic and non-academic staff, Officer Cadets and civilian undergraduates.
Kodukara ’42 was more than just a talent show, it was a celebration of creativity and unity. The event, which embraced a cultural theme, celebrated the diversity within the campus and gave special recognition to the Malay, Muslim and Hindu students. From the traditional oil lamp to the vibrant decorations and themed attire, every detail was thoughtfully curated to showcase the rich cultural diversity celebrated throughout the night. The decorations, compering and live music were all seamlessly orchestrated by the talented students of Intake 42.
Intake 42 of the KDU Southern Campus brought together students from the Faculty of Built Environment and Spatial Sciences and the Faculty of Computing. Kodukara ’42 stood as a proud milestone for this diverse and dynamic group, demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration across faculties and backgrounds. Despite being on campus for just three months, the success of the event reflected the companionship, unity and commitment of Intake 42.
As the night concluded, a wave of pride and excitement swept over everyone. Kodukara ’42 truly earned its place as an unforgettable chapter in the Kotelawala Defence University Southern Campus’s legacy of vibrant student led events.
