KDU Southern Campus Successfully Conducts 8-Mile Endurance Run for Officer Cadets

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Southern Campus successfully conducted its annual 8-mile endurance run on 04 May 2025 (Monday), marking another significant milestone in its military training programme.

A total of 42 cadets took part in the event, representing Intakes 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42. Among them were six foreign cadets from the Maldives, Rwanda and Tanzania. All cadets demonstrated remarkable physical and mental resilience, completing the run within the allocated time and proving their high standards of fitness and commitment, while Rwandan Officer Cadet A. Shyaka from Intake 42 secured the first place.

The event was graced by the presence of Senior Deputy Dean Commander (N) KMDOS Kodikara USP psc, who, along with the Squadron Commander and Troop Commanders, joined the run to motivate the cadets. The success of the event was underpinned by the tireless contributions of the Instructors, the Physical Training Instructors and the supportive administrative staff, whose coordinated efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the event. The unwavering guidance of the Rector of KDU Southern Campus, Brigadier HMGE Herath RSP USP ndu psc, played an instrumental role in the overall success of the event.

Special appreciation is also extended to the Sooriyawewa Traffic Police for their assistance in managing road safety and ensuring an uninterrupted route, as well as to the Sewanagala Hospital for providing standby medical support with an ambulance.

The event concluded with a debrief and a motivational address by the Senior Deputy Dean, who praised the cadets for their dedication and highlighted the essential role of physical endurance in military leadership. More than just a physical challenge, the run strengthened inter-intake camaraderie and underscored the values of perseverance and unity.
