The Southern Campus hosted a farewell ceremony to the outgoing vice chancellor of KDU, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil in appreciation of his contribution to the university through a period of 11 years. During the event, the vice chancellor addressed the undergraduates, academic and military staff of the Campus and encouraged them to uphold the standards of the university while striving for better development in future. He also appreciated the support and dedication of academia and administrative staff in uplifting the standards of education provided at KDU.

Major General Peiris was the pioneer and an instrumental personality in establishing the Southern Campus – KDU. Under his leadership, the Campus witnessed major developments including the construction of Faculty of Computing, many recreational facilities and a new accommodation complex for the day scholar students. In honoring his remarkable service, a token of appreciation was awarded to the vice chancellor on behalf of the staff and students of Southern Campus.
