BOOK DONATION DRIVE – PHASE III DERIVED BY “DANUMEN PERATA” AT VIDYALOKA MAHA VIDYALAYA

The Rotaract Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University – Southern Campus (KDUSC), in the presence of Rotaract Club of Cinnamon Gardens, successfully conducted the third phase of its ongoing community initiative, “Danumen Perata”, at Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Thalawilla, Sooriyawewa.

This phase focused on supporting O/L students by donating book packs containing essential academic materials in Mathematics, Science and other key subjects. Additionally, a collection of storybooks was handed over to the school library to promote reading among students.

Prior to the school visit, Rtn Sheahan Arasaratnam and Rtr Ilham Asmone, President of Rotaract Club of Cinnamon Gardens met with the Rector and academic staff at KDUSC for a discussion on future collaborations. The team then proceeded to the Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Thalawilla, Sooriyawewa, joined by over 20 Rotaractors and Capt. S. S. Abeysekara.

The school welcomed the team with a ceremonial greeting, including traditional performances, blessings by a Buddhist monk and speeches by the Principal, school staff and Rotaract representatives. A musical segment by Rtr Deneth Weerakkodi and an interactive session with students added a lively and engaging atmosphere. The event concluded with refreshments offered by the school and a final note of encouragement from Rtr Lahiru, followed by the national anthem.

Upon returning to campus, KDUSC hosted the visiting Rotaractors for evening refreshments. Rtr Omalya Atapattu, President of KDUSC Rotaract Club, delivered the vote of thanks and presented tokens of appreciation to the Cinnamon Gardens club representatives.
