The UNIMEDIA Orientation and Opening Ceremony 2025 was held on 14 February 2025 at the KDU Southern Campus Auditorium, marking a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards media excellence and student-driven communication.
The Chief Guest, the Rector of KDU Southern Campus, Brigadier Enoj Herath RSP USP ndu psc, graced the occasion alongside the Guest of Honour, Colonel Thushan De Silva psc, Director CITS & DS. The ceremony was also attended by the Adjutant, Squadron Commander, Troop Commanders, Heads of the Departments and a vibrant audience of Officer Cadets and Day Scholars of the KDU Southern Campus along with the representatives from the KDU Media Circle.
The ceremony began with traditional formalities, including the lighting of the oil lamp and the KDU Anthem, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of fallen war heroes and the students who tragically passed away in the bus accident in November 2024. The programme featured a dynamic mix of performances, presentations and speeches. Key highlights included the introduction of UNIMEDIA’s vision, upcoming project plans, a cultural dance, musical performances by the Aesthetic Club and a powerful drama emphasizing media’s impact in society. An inclusive Tamil language segment and a message from the KDU Media Circle further reflected the unit’s commitment to diversity and collaboration.
Brigadier Enoj Herath RSP USP ndu psc, delivering the keynote address, highlighted the transformative role of media in education and leadership. He commended the dedication of students and staff in launching UNIMEDIA as a platform for creativity, communication and professional growth. The event concluded with student reflections, a vote of thanks by the Day Scholar Nethmi Nimasha and a group photo session, setting the tone for a promising future. With the collective support of the KDU Media Circle and the Southern Campus community, UNIMEDIA is set to become a dynamic force in campus journalism, broadcasting and digital media.
